Operation New Birmingham is a non-profit, public private partnership between the City of Birmingham and Jefferson County and the private business community with dual missions: 

1. Economic development in the Birmingham City Center, and 
2. The promotion of racial justice and harmony within the entire Birmingham community.

ONB’s overriding goal is to make the Birmingham City Center the #1 choice for business, living, healthcare and the arts & entertainment.
 
The Birmingham City Center is officially described as a 360 block area bounded by

• I-65 on the east
• 12th Avenue North on the north 
• The Elton B. Stephens Expressway (Hwy 31) on the east and 
• 12th Avenue South on the south 
• ONB also works in the Five Points South and Lakeview districts

ONB is under contract to the City of Birmingham, which provides approximately one-half of its funding ,specifically to implement the City Center Master Plan. (link to Master Plan page on this website). The other half of its annual funding is provided by the private business community through a series of five-year pledges.
